As a natural questioner, I often wonder if it’s so hard for people to stop and think about what life really is, After all, going on a deep, philosophical search sets you on a particular path.
For me, for example, someone always curious about the things no one can explain like, why am I me? Since I first asked myself that question, I embarked on the path of “knowing oneself,” as Socrates taught.
This path doesn’t give you all the answers, but it’s a long journey, filled with beauty and calmness. It’s not free of pain, but rather, the pain is bearable.
The path of “knowing oneself” is lined with mirrors, so each person sees a different perspective and direction. Not everyone has the same path, but we all move in the same direction or at least, ideally, toward the same direction: growth, an elevated awareness, and connection to the divine, that which can’t be fully explained but fills you nonetheless.
A path in search of values, virtue, and wisdom offers essential tools to become worthy of what only you can achieve through your choices. What are your choices? When you lie down to sleep at night, think of all the things you did that day that served as a lesson. It’s a fantastic feeling to feel useful. Keep it simple, for nature itself is enough; this makes my day. I live in Seattle, and the beauty here surpasses any stress from a large, chaotic, and polarized city because, on this personal path, I learned that things come and go.
The path of “knowing oneself” is individual. Helena Blavatsky, in her book Practical Occultism, mentions that God is the law itself, God will not reveal Himself to those discontented with Him. If we acknowledge that we’re in the stream of evolution, then every circumstance should be considered entirely just for us. Failures in our actions should be seen as our greatest help, as we can’t learn in any other way. If all our plans succeeded, no contrast would appear to us.
So, follow your path, gathering virtues and wisdom, so that when you reach the end of your journey and encounter the divine, you can feel proud of your life’s trajectory.
Choose the inner path, for according to Aristotle, it is there that life dwells.
